Comments out of Queensland 'far from helpful'

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham says some of the comments that came from Queensland this week have been far from helpful.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk blasted the federal government over the vaccine rollout and the lack of supply in Queensland during press conferences this week.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young also said on Wednesday people under 40 should not take the AstraZeneca vaccine because she didn’t want 18 year olds in the state dying.

“I hope that they will put the politicking aside and actually get back on with the job of supporting the vaccine rollout and supporting Australia in our handlining of COVID,” Mr Birmingham told Sky News.

“Maybe today’s National Cabinet meeting can be a circuit breaker and perhaps Premier Palaszczuk can listen to Premier Andrews who has been a bit more reasonable and sensible in his messaging on the vaccine.”
