Coronavirus outbreak: Alberta launches contact-tracing app to fight COVID-19 spread | FULL

Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw provided an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province Friday and the government's ongoing response to the pandemic.

Hinshaw reported 218 new positive cases from the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 5,573. Of these, she said that 2,359 cases have recovered.

Hinshaw also reported three deaths, bringing the number of lives lost to COVID-19 in Alberta to 92.
She said that all three deaths were in continuing care facilities that are experiencing outbreaks.

She also announced the launch of a mobile contact-tracing app for the province, called ABTraceTogether, to help fight the spread of COVID-19.

On Thursday, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney released details of its relaunch strategy, which includes a plan to re-open some medical services, parks, golf courses and businesses.
