Unbelievable footage shows what it’s like driving through the silent and empty streets of Rome under the coronavirus lockdown.

The Italian government escalated measures in the fight against the virus, closing all parks, gardens and playgrounds for at least five days.

Italy is now the epicentre of the crisis, surpassing China with a death toll of more than 4,000.

The country is also the second in the world, after China, for number of infections, with a total of over 47,000 confirmed cases.
